With the Buffalo Sabres trailing 4-1, forward Evander Kane tried to give his club a spark.
The 24-year-old threw a hit on Alex Petrovic, which the Panthers defenseman took exception to.
The two exchanged words before eventually dropping the gloves in the Panthers zone.
Kane was assessed two minutes for slashing and Petrovic picked up two for slashing and five for fighting.
A little over eight minutes later the two Western Hockey League alums dropped the gloves for round two.
With 7:57 remaining in the third, and the Panthers leading 6-3, Kane and Petrovic dropped the gloves for a third time.
Both players were ejected with matching game misconducts following the third fight.
"He's a big boy. The first two didn't go his way probably," Kane told John Vogl of The Buffalo News postgame. "You get three fights you get kicked out of the game, so you don't have an opportunity for a fourth."
